Client Site Safety

The following hazards may occur when workers are contracted to do work at a client’s location:

  • First aid emergency
  • Exposure to chemicals
  • Slips and falls
  • Other severe injuries to back, head, etc. 

 

All employees will be aware of the health and safety policies and procedures of ServiceMaster and will be held accountable to follow them while performing duties outside of the office. 

 

ServiceMaster employees will be given a client-site safety information sheet that includes important safety information such as the location of the nearest exits, location of the first aid kit/equipment, key steps to evacuating the building, instructions on how to report a hazard, etc. Employees may be required to fill out the information sheet for new customers. 

 

All staff are to be aware of the ServiceMaster Logbook at each client location and use this as a resource for health and safety information.

 

Smoking is not permitted on client property.

 

All posted safety rules must be obeyed and must not be removed except by Management’s authorization.

 

Security

Building security is to be maintained at all times. Employees should never give out keys, pass cards or alarm codes to anyone. 

 

All doors should be are locked before the employee leaves. Employees should not unlock doors for entry or exit of individuals unless authorized by the customer. 

 

In the event that you experience problems with the security system, the Supervisor must be contacted immediately.

 

Electrical/Mechanical

Employees should not operate equipment for which training has not been provided.

 

Employees should inspect all cleaning and personal protective equipment prior to use and not operate equipment with faulty plugs, receptacles, switches, wiring or other defects.

 

Any defective equipment should be immediately reported to the Supervisor.

Pedestrian Safety in Plants and Warehouses

  • Where pedestrian walkways are provided – always use them.
  • Never stand or walk behind a vehicle – the driver may not have seen you and could reverse without warning.
  • Never walk across an area where pedestrians are not allowed.
  • If you need to speak to or contact a vehicle driver, never assume he or she is aware of your presence – make sure the driver has seen you and STOPPED the vehicle before you approach.
  • Make eye contact with oncoming drivers.
  • If you are concerned about the risk of collision with pedestrians, then report the circumstances to the Supervisor right away.
